Neal started his musical venture at 12 years old playing the Euphonium in school, in Brass Bands and an Orchestra. Here he learned the basics of music theory and notation. Through secondary school he took his hand to Tuba and Bass Guitar. This continued through to Sixth Form college where he joined the school Jazz Band and toured with the school to play in various countries in Europe; Belgium, Germany, Paris (Disney Land). After successfully completing his Grade 5 theory exam and attaining grade 6 in Tuba, Neal went on to study for a BA Hons Commercial Music degree at The University of Westminster. Here he studied music production and studio recording methods that he now uses socially and professionally.
After University, Neal took to the life of a freelance musician and teacher. He has worked with various different companies and agencies delivering Music Technology workshops, Instrument lessons (Guitar, Bass, Piano, Vocals) Film Production and storyboarding sessions as well as website design and animation workshops (stop-motion and Flash) mostly for young people. Neal worked as the Performing Arts Officer for the London Borough of Haringey for two and a half years where he designed and delivered creative projects for young people. DefCon Workshops, Paddington Arts Centre and The Princes Trust are just some of the companies and agencies Neal has worked with.
In addition to teaching, Neal also has an established presence in the Live Music scene in London. Playing Bass guitar, backing singing and MD (musical director) for session band ‘The Remedies”, Neal has played with various talented signed and unsigned artists and acts in venues around London such as; Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Café, Cargo, Shorditch House, Raffles, The Pigale and various others. Neal has also had the privilege of playing stages at some of the country’s National festivals in 2009 including; Bestival, Glastonbury, The Big Chill and Love Box.
Neal started teaching with Al Pascal music school in early 2009 and predominantly teaches Bass Guitar, although has some beginner students in Guitar, Piano and Vocals as well. Neal’s passion for teaching music has grown from the time he left school and continues to grow and mature. He gives as best as he can and feels that he can bring something valuable to the music school, for many years to come.
